Manchester United are on the verge of signing Belgium and Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld in a £60million record deal, this is according to reports.
Although United have reinforced some areas of their squad, Mourinho is a tad displeased with the dearth of transfer activities at the club and he has pleaded with the top brass of the Mancunian side to sign up a top-notch defender.
United ended last season with the second best defensive record in the Premier league but the injury vulnerability of Eric Bailly, and the form of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones means the Red Devils need a more assured defender and they have set their sight on Alderweireld.
While the transfer window in the EPL is expected to be shut in about four days, the Mirror reports that United are expected to wrap up the deal for Alderweireld within the next 48 hours as requested by Mourinho.
Mauricio Pochettino, and Mourinho is hoping that the star would be able to replicate the same form when he finally signs the deal.
Alderweireld has refused to extend his contract with Tottenham but the London club are hoping to convince him to stay despite the speculation surrounding his future.
Since Sir Alex Ferguson relinquished the managerial position of United, they have been unable to win the Premier league but Mourinho has been tipped to bring back the glory days at the club.
